ATP Lyon Draw and Preview: Cobolli looks to find form as top seed

Another one of the ATP 250 tournaments being held this week is the event in Lyon, France. This was removed from the ATP calendar in 2025 but has now returned. Remarkably Cameron Norrie is the only player in the Lyon main draw who has previously won the event, he claimed the title in 2022. Worth nothing it was a clay event during that season and is now played on indoor hard.

Notable Seeds:

Flavio Cobolli will be the No.1 seed this week in Lyon and still has a big motivation of qualifying for the Year-End finals in Turin. The Italian made his first major final at the French Open this season, but has not won a lot in recent weeks. He is currently in the midst of a four match losing streak, his last win coming against World No.180 Tristan Schoolkate of Australia. A gigantic weight of pressure on Cobolli and it will not start easy for him as he either plays Martin Landaluce, who is fresh off a Challenger final run in Jinan, or Grand Slam champion Stanislas Wawrinka, who is here as a main draw wildcard this week.

Second notable seed for me is No.7 seed Ugo Humbert of France. I just feel that Humbert is always a threat in an indoor tournament and that is elevated even more when he is playing in front of hostile home support. Through the years Humbert has had so much indoor success - four of his seven ATP titles have come in these conditions (2x Marseille, Metz and Antwerp) and he also has a couple of finals in the Paris Masters and Stockholm on top of that. He can go far this week and gets Corentin Moutet in the first round.
Stories of the week:
The wildcards will be interesting to follow this week, but none more so than French prospect Moise Kouame. Kouame is just 17 years old and won his first tour-level match in Miami this year. Could have a high ceiling based on what we have seen so far, but nerve management and game identity issues are there. Following his matches this week will be amazing.
Most compelling first round match: Kouame vs Sonego.
